Scratch for a chance to win a home in Antwerp

2025
HET BOS, Antwerp BE

In May 2025, I presented a participatory dinner at Het Bos, where I cooked a four-course meal an appetizer, main course, drink, and dessert each inspired by a different place in Antwerp that holds personal meaning for me. These locations are not simply physical spaces but emotional landmarks  streets I walked through countless times, markets where I bought familiar ingredients, and corners of the city where I once felt both foreign and at home.

Each dish was paired with a scratch card and a poem I wrote, reflecting my feelings of migration, distance, and belonging. Guests were invited to scratch the surface of the card to reveal a fragment of text a memory, a question, or a small confession  echoing the idea of uncovering hidden emotions beneath everyday gestures.

As people ate, read, and talked, the dinner became a space of collective storytelling. For me, cooking in this setting was not just an act of serving food, but a way of inviting others into my own process of navigating life in a foreign city. Through taste, smell, and conversation, the audience and I shared an intimate exploration of what it means to build “home” through small, sensory acts.
